On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, the Lynchburg City School Board approved measures to improve efficiency and optimize resources within the school division, starting in the 2025-26 school year. T. C. Miller Elementary School will be repurposed for Pre-Kindergarten and elementary alternative education, and select neighborhoods will be rezoned for Dearington and Bass elementary schools.
Closure of T. C. Miller as a K-5 School
Starting in the 2025-26 school year, T. C. Miller Elementary School will no longer operate as a K-5 elementary school. Students currently zoned for T. C. Miller will be assigned to either Perrymont Elementary or R. S. Payne Elementary next school year. Students who currently attend T. C. Miller by invitation will attend their zoned school.
Repurposing of T. C. Miller for Pre-K & Elementary Alternative Education
Starting in the fall, T. C. Miller will house all Pre-K classes currently at Paul Munro, Perrymont, and R. S. Payne elementary schools, as well as the Transition Alternative Program currently at W. M. Bass Elementary School.
Select Elementary Rezoning
Students who live in the Birchwood neighborhood, which is currently zoned for Perrymont Elementary, will be rezoned for Dearington Elementary next school year. Students in the Florida Ave./Winston Ridge neighborhood who currently attend Heritage Elementary will be rezoned for Bass Elementary next school year.
