Lynchburg City Schools is very excited to kickoff the football season on Friday, August 26 at Lynchburg City Stadium at 7:00 p.m. as Heritage High School takes on William Fleming High School. We know that high school football represents a special time for students, families, staff, and our community as we join together cheering on our Hilltoppers and Pioneers.
We want everyone’s experience at LCS football games to be happy, healthy, and safe—and to always be the type of community event everyone can enjoy. Our goal is to enhance the high school football experience for our student athletes and fans and to always grow in our mission to build positive experiences for our students. For that reason, we have a few updates this year that we have developed in partnership with school leadership, athletic directors, and the Lynchburg Police Department. While there is no reason to believe at this point that there will be any security issues at any of our events, we are proactively working to ensure everyone at our events feels welcome and safe.
First, no bags, purses, backpacks, or similar items will be allowed in the stadium, so we encourage you to leave those items at home or securely in your car when you come to City Stadium.
Second, all attendees will be required to pass through a security checkpoint prior to entering the stadium. As a reminder, no weapons are permitted at school events, so please leave those at home as well.
Finally, our biggest change is that LCS has contracted with a private security firm with extensive experience providing event staffing and security for some of the largest college athletics events in the southeast. This firm will staff the security checkpoint and will provide additional safety and security monitoring services throughout the stadium in coordination with Lynchburg City School staff and Lynchburg Police Department officers. We are confident this strategy will help us continually increase the level of professionalism in our event staffing and make for an even more enjoyable event for everyone. This is another example of the high caliber experience provided to Lynchburg City Schools students, families, staff, and community.
