The Lynchburg City Schools Class of 2014 began its celebration today as the graduates of Fort Hill Community School walked across the stage to accept their high school diplomas.
Thirteen students received their high school diploma from Fort Hill this year, including six from the base school of E. C. Glass, six from the base school of Heritage High, and one from Amherst County High.
These students were greeted by staff of Fort Hill, each LCS high school, and building administrators, as well as family and friends who joined in the celebration.
The Honorable H. Cary Payne was the commencement speaker. He gave a heartfelt speech about overcoming obstacles and left the graduates with the final words: “Don’t Quit.”
After the awarding of the diplomas, LCS Superintendent Dr. Scott Brabrand commended the students on their accomplishments and recognized principal Cathy Viar as one of the best in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Fort Hill Community School is an alternative education school within the Lynchburg City Schools division. It serves students in grades 6-12 who struggle to succeed in a traditional classroom setting.
