The Heritage High School Band is Superior, and Virginia knows it.
For the fifth time in the past six years, and ninth time overall, the HHS band has been named a Commonwealth of Virginia Honor Band by the Virginia Band and Orchestra Director’s Association. This award recognizes superior achievement in all areas of the band program.
In order to be considered for the award, the band had to receive a Superior rating at the two events sponsored by the VBODA. These include the State Marching Band Assessment in October and the District VI Concert Band Assessment in March. The band received not only straight Superior ratings at both festivals, but high accolades from all of the judges and audiences for their outstanding performances.
“I am very proud of the efforts of all of the students, as well as the support of our parents, administration and faculty and community supporters,” said Mike Hand, director of bands at Heritage. “This is a team award that brings much recognition to our school and school district from the band community. Simply stated, it recognizes the Heritage High School Band program as one of the best in the state.”
