Several students from Lynchburg City Schools were winners in the district level of the 2012 Virginia History Day competition held at Central Virginia Community College on March 24.
Students competed in nine different categories, and the top two entries in each category qualified for the state contest in April, and can ultimately reach the national contest held at the University of Maryland at College Park.
Virginia History Day is a history competition for students in grades six through twelve. It is conducted at district and state levels in conjunction with the National History Day program. The first round of competition is held in the eight Districts of Virginia. Students in grades six through eight are assigned to the junior division, while students in grades nine through twelve are assigned to the senior division.
