Lynchburg City Schools (LCS) Superintendent Dr. Kristy Somerville-Midgette was elected to the Executive Committee of the AASA, The School Superintendents Association. She was inducted into the 23-member committee on July 7, 2026.
Dr. Midgette is one of two representatives from Region 5, which includes Virginia, North Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina, and Georgia.
Formerly known as the American Association of School Administrators, AASA is a professional community of more than 100,000 educational leaders. The organization provides access to professional development and resources, facilitates the national exchange of ideas, and advocates for public education nationwide.
Dr. Midgette has been a Virginia representative for the 135-member AASA Governing Board since 2021. Her selection for the Executive Committee represents a continued commitment to promoting success in public education and developing a supportive national community of school administrators.
“I’m proud to serve as a member of the AASA Executive Committee. As I step into this leadership role, I’m eager for the opportunity to advocate for student success nationwide,” Dr. Midgette said.
