Each of our high schools and middle schools has a school resource officer (SRO), or a law enforcement officer employed by the Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) and assigned to a school. From preparing crisis plans to safeguarding students, staff, and guests, SROs provide safety and security services while working full-time in the schools they serve.
To continue implementing the SRO program effectively, Lynchburg City Schools (LCS) and the LPD review our Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) every two years. The MOU clearly documents the roles, responsibilities, and expectations of the individuals and partners involved.
As part of the review process, LCS is requesting community feedback on the program before we renew our 2026 agreement. See the current MOU here.
