The Lynchburg City School Board approved the Superintendent’s recommendation to appoint Ashley Burks as the division’s Director of Special Education, effective Jan. 8.
Burks brings more than 17 years of experience in education to the position, including her most recent role as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) for Lynchburg City Schools (LCS). She has previously served the school division as a Behavior Coach, Special Education Teacher, and Special Education Lead.
“I am deeply honored to step into the role of Director of Special Education for Lynchburg City Schools,” Burks said. “This marks the beginning of a new chapter in transforming how we serve, support, and celebrate our exceptional students and educators. Together, with staff, parents, students, and the community, we will unite with bold purpose to see LCS rise as a national leader for Special Education, setting a benchmark that others aspire to follow.”
Prior to her time most recently with LCS, Burks served Pre-K through 12th grade students as a Special Education Teacher and Certified Registered Behavior Technician with the Blue Ridge Autism and Achievement Center. In addition to her BCBA certification, Burks holds a Master’s degree and Educational Specialist degree in Special Education: Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty University.
“She brings a wealth of knowledge, leadership, and passion that make her an excellent choice to take on this important role for Lynchburg City Schools,” said LCS Interim Superintendent Dr. Ben Copeland.
