The Lynchburg City School Board approved the Superintendent’s recommendation to appoint Doug Brown as the new Band Director and Jim George as the new Orchestra Director of E. C. Glass High School.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Mr. George and Mr. Brown as the new band and orchestra directors at E. C. Glass. I’m confident they will continue to grow these two historically strong programs and take them to the next level. Our students will benefit greatly from their leadership,” said Lynchburg City Schools (LCS) Deputy Superintendent of Operations and Strategic Planning Reid Wodicka.

A seasoned leader, George has been the Orchestra Director at Linkhorne Middle School for the past five years. He’s grown the program to more than 80 students and raised the standard for musical greatness in his time there. Prior to his tenure at Linkhorne Middle, he served as the Orchestra Director and strings instructor at Chesapeake Public Schools and Fredericksburg City Public Schools. He has a bachelor’s degree in music and a master’s degree in orchestral conducting from James Madison University. When he’s not leading ensembles, he plays viola for the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra and both viola and violin for Got Strings.

“E. C. Glass is the place where I realized music was the path I was destined to go down. Being chosen as the next Director of Orchestras is definitely a full circle moment for me and feels like I'm coming home,” George said.

Before that, he worked as a Band Director at Campbell County High School after earning a bachelor’s degree in music at the University of Tennessee. He brings a wealth of musical experience and knowledge to the table from his years leading musicians at LCS and beyond.

“I am excited to be back home in Lynchburg, where I spent seven years at Linkhorne Middle School and three years at Heritage High School. I am looking forward to continuing the standard of excellence at E. C. Glass High School,” Brown said.
