Fort Hill Community School will welcome Dr. Chris Glover as their new principal in the fall. Returning to Lynchburg City Schools (LCS) after four years as the Director of Impact and Engagement at Lynchburg Beacon of Hope, Dr. Glover previously served as the Assistant Principal at Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle School for Innovation from 2016-19 and a teacher at Heritage High School from 2007-12.

Dr. Glover’s 16-year career in education has afforded him a diverse range of experiences equipping him to serve the Fort Hill community. He brings unique perspectives on student success strategies from his work to reduce summer learning loss through Freedom School Partners in Charlotte, N.C. and to eliminate barriers to postsecondary education for LCS students through Lynchburg Beacon of Hope.

"I'm excited to work with the staff of Fort Hill Community School to craft an educational experience for our students that is engaging, hope-filled, and restorative,” Dr. Glover said.

Fort Hill Community School provides opportunities for students who aren’t succeeding in a traditional classroom setting due to educational, behavioral, or medical needs. Dr. Glover’s commitment to helping all students thrive in the face of difficulty aligns closely with the school’s mission.

“Every child needs someone to believe in them, even when obstacles abound. Rarely have I met someone who believes in students as fiercely as Dr. Glover,” said LCS Superintendent Dr. Crystal Edwards. “I’m confident he’ll do great things at Fort Hill Community School.”

Dr. Glover is also an adjunct education professor at the University of Lynchburg. He’s passionate about promoting equity in schools, and it shows; he’s led trainings on culture, education, and race for organizations like the Academy Center for the Arts, the YMCA of Central Virginia, Randolph College, and local high schools. At Dunbar Middle, he served as the chair of the school equity team and the coordinator for multicultural training.

Dr. Glover earned a doctorate in curriculum and instruction with a specialization in urban education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He has a master’s in educational leadership with a K-12 Administration licensure from the University of Lynchburg and a bachelor’s in history from Christopher Newport University.

An active member of the community, Dr. Glover currently serves as an IRON Lives, Inc. board member, Education Advisory Board member at Randolph College, and an Inclusive Excellence Collaborative member at the University of Lynchburg. His wealth of educational experience and commitment to inclusive, student-centered approaches will be invaluable as he leads Fort Hill Community School.

“My main goal is helping students heal, learn, and grow, ultimately empowering them to be the best versions of themselves they can be,” Dr. Glover said. “I'm looking forward to tackling that mission with a community of support, and I'm grateful that LCS has entrusted me with this opportunity.”
