This is your Board Meeting Brief for the March 7th School Board Meeting.
Dr. Reid Wodicka, Deputy Superintendent of Operations and Strategic Planning, updated the Board on the Facilities Master Plan. Facilities plan consulting firm MGT is currently conducting an environmental scan to plan for the facilities updates. In May, they will gather community feedback via surveys, focus groups, and meetings.
The School Board then voted to approve the 2023-24 LCS School Calendar, which was discussed at the previous school board meeting.
LCS administration continued to discuss preliminary operating budget requests for the next school year. The night’s focus was on potential LCS employee health insurance options and related premiums. The Board voted to pursue adjusting active employee premiums to mirror the City of Lynchburg’s contribution rates. You can find more information about health insurance options on BoardDocs. A public budget hearing will be held on March 21st at 5:00 p.m.
Two major donations were presented during the meeting. Mrs. Katie Roseveare and the McGuire Foundation are donating $9,200 to Heritage Elementary School for upcoming field trips. The trips will provide experiential learning opportunities for fourth and fifth grade students that directly support SOL preparation.
Sandusky Middle School will receive $25,000 worth of instruments from the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation. The 18 brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments will support the school’s band program.
