Lynchburg City Schools is excited to welcome students back for another excellent school year. We are dedicated to creating an optimal learning environment that supports students' academic, social, and emotional development. To further this commitment, we will be implementing a new policy for the use of personal electronic communication devices, such as cell phones, smartwatches, and earbuds.

Every minute spent in school matters, and by limiting distractions, we can help students engage more fully with their studies and fellow students, enriching their educational experience and supporting their growth. We kindly ask families to support us in implementing these new expectations regarding cell phone use.

At the high school level, students are welcome to use personal devices before and after school and during their lunch periods. At all other times, devices should be turned off and kept out of sight to maintain focus in the classroom.

Middle and elementary school students may have personal devices in their possession, but these will need to be turned off and out of sight throughout the regular school day in order to foster a distraction-free environment.

For parents and guardians needing to contact their child during the school day, each school’s main office will continue to provide a reliable line of communication.

We understand that adapting to this change may be challenging for some students and families, and we are committed to supporting everyone through this transition. School administrators and staff are prepared to assist and ensure that the new policy contributes to the success and excellence of all students.

We are confident that with your support, this policy will positively impact our students' learning experiences and help us achieve our shared goal of academic excellence.

If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s school.
