Message from Mrs. Steele, Principal

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for encouraging our students to love reading and understand how literacy is the foundation of educational success and life-long learning. The way our staff, families and community provided inspirational messages and support as they shared how much they loved to read was so encouraging to our students! A Huge Husky Shout Out to Megan Huffman for being the lead on our Read-A-Thon and all of our PTO, families, staff, business partners and community leaders! You were all such an important part of helping our students smile, laugh, enjoy reading and create special memories that will last a lifetime! They really needed that extra support this year!

Read-A-Thon Recap

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED IN OUR AMAZING READ-A-THON! We were blown away when all of our students participated in the program and the school collectively read for 84,272 minutes from March 1-12!!! The spirit days were amazing and teachers and staff made it so much fun!

Endless thanks to the friends and family who supported our readers as they helped us raise $14,500! The website will be active for ten more days for any last minute donations that might come in to celebrate our readers.

Students, teachers and staff will celebrate with an outdoor celebration on the blacktop this week! Mrs. Steele promised to do "something cheesy" if students exceeded 50,000 minutes of reading so students will eagerly be anticipating that! Each student will receive a Slurpee coupon and prizes for the classes who read the most minutes per grade will be recognized.

We are grateful to Brownstone Properties, John Stewart Walker Realtor Laura Simms Webb, and Appalachian Orthodontics for their generous company sponsorships! Many thanks to 7-11, Givens Books & Little Dickens, MayLynn’s Creamery, Mama Crockett’s Cider Donuts, Bacon St. Bagels, Montana Plains, Magnolia Foods and Joe Bean’s Coffee for prize donations.

Thank you to the Buchanan, Easley, Edmunds, Flavin, Frye, Geier, Haiar, Huffman, McClung, Paris, Perdue, Rumore, Smithson, Sorenson, Terry, Tolle, Yarbrough and Wooldridge families for family sponsorships who helped offset our expenses!
