All Dearington Elementary School for Innovation students were treated to a morning of fun STEM activities at FunQuest, thanks to a grant received by DESI STEM teacher Tawanda Johnson. The name of the grant is “STEM Education: A Piece of Skate,” and its purpose is to provide students with a fun, engaging field experience as well as be a positive motivator for learning more about STEM fields. The STEM lessons offered at FunQuest were age appropriate and cover various SOL concepts (i,e. light and sound). The field trip was a culminating event and incentive for all DESI students. The grant covered admission into FunQuest, STEM lessons, skating/games as well as bus transportation for the entire DESI student body and faculty/staff.
