This is your Board Meeting Brief for the February 21st School Board Work Session.
Dr. Sam Coleman, Chief Academic Officer, provided a mid-year academic update to the Board. This marks the second year LCS has used the Virginia Department of Education’s SOL growth assessments to measure trends in student progress in math and reading. Data from this winter’s assessment shows growth across the board on average at LCS.
These SOL growth assessments provide LCS with new data that will be used to foster student success and address student academic achievement gaps.
LCS administration continued to discuss preliminary operating budget requests for the next school year. They discussed the potential costs, including the proposed 15/50 plan, additional teachers, health insurance, transportation, and employee perks. You can view the working proposed budget documents on BoardDocs.
The School Board then discussed the draft of the 2023-24 school calendar, which was presented at the previous school board meeting.
The next School Board Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 7, 2023.
