This is your Board Meeting Brief for the October 4th School Board Meeting.

Deputy Superintendent Amy Pugh gave an in-depth presentation on how COVID relief funding has been used to address learning recovery. Funding has helped create and sustain virtual learning environments for students, in addition to supporting the delivery of instruction though educational software, devices, and over 700 mobile hotspots for students. Funds were also used for extended learning and academic opportunities, including before and after school programs, summer programming, and targeted individual and small group instruction during school hours.

Deputy Superintendent Pugh also discussed school accreditation. All schools are accredited for the 2022-23 school year, some with conditions. Beginning in the 2018-19 academic year, the Virginia Board of Education revised its accreditation standards to provide a more comprehensive view of school quality while continuing to place an increased emphasis on closing the achievement gap.

Also during the meeting, the School Board approved a donation of $5,000 to Bedford Hills Elementary School from the school’s PTO. The funds will be used to purchase iPads, virtual reality headsets, and Osmo kits to enhance the school’s Idea Lab.
