Lynchburg City Schools (LCS) will implement changes to school day hours for the 2024-25 school year. These adjustments aim to enhance transportation reliability, minimize bus delays, and reduce commute times for students. This update will also cut down on operational costs for the school division.

Below, you will find the revised school day hours that will go into effect in the fall of 2024:

Level School Day Hours
High School & Middle School 7:25 a.m. – 2:25 p.m.
Elementary (Group 1) 8:10 a.m. - 3:10 p.m.
Elementary (Group 2) 8:40 a.m. - 3:40 p.m.

Elementary (Group 1): W. M. Bass, Bedford Hills, Heritage Elementary, Linkhorne Elementary, Perrymont, and R. S. Payne
Elementary (Group 2): Dearington, Hutcherson, Paul Munro, Sandusky Elementary, Sheffield, and T. C. Miller

Note: Elementary groups were determined based on geography and bus route efficiency.

While the start and dismissal times for high school students are unchanged from the current school year, middle school students will begin and end their day 25 minutes earlier. Similarly, elementary students in Group 1 will begin and end their day 25 minutes earlier. Elementary students in Group 2 will begin and end their school day 5 minutes later than the current school year. Bus routes will be available in August.

Yes, middle and high school students will ride buses together. Combining routes like this is a common practice in surrounding areas and has proven successful. Students will have assigned seating on separate parts of the bus.

Building administrators will determine staff workday hours. LCS employees should contact their supervisor if they have any questions.

What are the new dismissal times for student early dismissal days?
