The Empowerment Academy is an alternative program, which students apply to attend, designed to assist high school students in need of credit recovery and/or SOL remediation. Applicant students are provided with a small, untraditional, environment that provides instruction that is differentiated and specified to meet their needs. Applicant students are typically students who have minimal to no disciplinary referrals on record and are in need of academic supports to meet graduation requirements. Our foundation is based on meeting students where they are and providing guidance, support, and motivation along their academic journey to ultimately lift them from their origin up to goal attainment. The Empowerment Academy is based on the mission and vision of Lynchburg City Schools. All students deserve an educational experience that is entrenched in a tradition of excellence of all, which begins by serving each student by name and need to graduation. Our goal is to ensure that our students recognize and appreciate their value and strengths and use them to be an ambitious, confident individual that is able to think critically to ensure that they are equipped to be productive citizens. We will do so by taking an all-inclusive, communal approach with our students in which parents, students, teachers, counselors, and administrators collaborate to establish a productive environment that helps our students achieve, recognize, and demonstrate their potential.
